PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edward Locke (ranked 25126 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Green (ranked 6291 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Edward Locke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Green!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Green tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Locke swivels and escapes.
Locke seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Green misses with a looping right.
Locke throws a low kick but Green avoids it.

Locke has closed the distance and engaged Green in a clinch.

Green escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Locke dives in for a single leg takedown but Green sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Green blocks a head kick by Locke.

Green takes the fight into the clinch.

Green pulls guard successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Locke looking to pass the guard.
Green is looking to stand up but Locke isn't so interested in that idea.
Green striking off his back but it's not causing Locke any problems.

Locke trying to control the position from guard on top but Green is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Locke controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Green bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Locke's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Green passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Green tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Green passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Locke!

Green is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Locke has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Locke is looking to get to half guard.
Locke might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Locke tries to hold on but Green pushes him away.
Locke on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Locke tries to get out of the position.

Green slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Green is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Locke is defending well though. Green let's go of the attempt for now.

Green wants to control but Locke is keeping busy.

Green keeps the fight on the outside.
Edward Locke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Locke could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Green tries to sprawl but Locke drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Still in half guard, Locke seems content to control.
Green makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Green.

Locke drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Green manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Locke has Green in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Locke trying to keep a closed guard but Green is proving a slippery customer.
Locke utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Locke has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Green has passed into side control.

Green tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Green has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Locke is trying to control Green's posture but Green avoids it.
Green moves into full mount!

Green throws some wild stikes that Locke manages to avoid easily.
Green looking to finish with strikes here!
Green throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Green tries to control but Locke wriggling away.
Locke is wriggling around trying to escape.
Green trying to control but Locke is having none of it.
Locke trying desperately to get to his feet.
Green has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Green is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Locke to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Locke shrugs it off.

John Green showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Green fails with a takedown attempt.
Green shoots for a takedown but Locke saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Locke slaps away a takedown attempt from Green, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Edward Locke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Green.
Green fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Green throws a body shot but no joy.
Locke shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

enabling Locke to counter with a crisp jab.

Green fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Locke, pushing him back against the cage.
Green is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Locke is keeping busy.

Green breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Green takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Locke misses with a low kick.
Green drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Locke defends it well.
Locke misses with a low kick as Green jumps back.
Green tries to counter with a clinch but Locke shakes him off and moves away.

Locke drives through and clinches with Green against the cage.

Green pulls Locke into guard.
Locke has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Locke throws a big right hand that misses.

Green controls Locke momentarily but Locke frees himself.
Green preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Locke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Green on the ground.

Locke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Green has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Locke has managed to get both his arms back between Green's legs - danger averted.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Green tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Locke manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Green is trying to pull guard but Locke turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Locke misses with a hook to the ribs.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Green is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Green stalling in the clinch but Locke improves position.

Green breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Locke.
The fight stays on the outside here - Locke looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Green avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Locke has managed to clinch.

Green pulls guard.
Green is controlling Locke's posture.
Green tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Edward Locke has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Green is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Locke wanted to stand there but Green had control of the position.

I think Green has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
