Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rakan Alrashed!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Penn pushes Alrashed off and scrambles back to his feet.
Rakan Alrashed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn dives in and scores a takedown into Alrashed's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Penn's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Penn preventing the sweep.
Alrashed keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Penn throws an elbow that misses. Alrashed uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Penn's guard. Nice move by Alrashed!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Alrashed is controlling an arm, preventing Penn from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Alrashed stops Penn from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alrashed can do anything to dispel that myth.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Penn looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Poor strikes thrown by Penn there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Alrashed is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Penn content just to control the position here.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Alrashed fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Penn to the ground. Alrashed is now in Penn's guard.

Penn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alrashed manages to get himself to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Alrashed has a closed guard, preventing Penn from standing up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Alrashed fails with the takedown.

Penn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Penn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alrashed tries to improve position but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Penn dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Alrashed shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alrashed darts in looking for a takedown but Penn gets double underhooks and turns Alrashed into the cage.
Penn is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alrashed can do to turn this around?

Penn manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alrashed on his heels. He'll look to pass Alrashed's guard now, I'm sure.
Penn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Alrashed really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alrashed wants to sweep but no luck.

Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Alrashed manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Penn is pressed up against the cage. Alrashed has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Penn down to the mat. Penn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Penn jumps guard and drags Alrashed to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Penn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alrashed does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ben Penn.
Well Penn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
