Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Monty Fiske (ranked 3309 p4p, 339 weight class) and Koryu Miyagi (ranked 3426 p4p, 350 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Koryu Miyagi!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fiske throws a body punch but Miyagi moves out of range.
A punch lands to the side of Fiske 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Fiske misses with a wild body shot.
Miyagi feints a counter leg kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Miyagi checks a leg kick.
Miyagi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fiske tries to clinch up.
A low kick from Fiske is predictable there

and Miyagi counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fiske has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Miyagi working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

We've been hearing good reports from Fiske's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Fiske on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Fiske tries to get out of the position.

I really don't envy Fiske right now.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Miyagi enables Fiske to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Miyagi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Miyagi shoots in looking for a takedown. Fiske tries to sprawl out of it but Miyagi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fiske manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That was a close second round but I would say that Monty Fiske will probably get the nod.

Koryu Miyagi decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
