The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lempi shoots in and bounces Balboa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Balboa wants to get back to his feet but Lempi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Balboa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lempi scoring with punches to the head and body.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lempi trying to control the position from guard on top but Balboa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lempi wants to pass the guard but Balboa is keeping the position.
Balboa keeping moving, preventing Lempi from controlling successfully.

Lempi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Lempi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lempi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Balboa is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Balboa breaks from the clinch.

Lempi feints and as Balboa raises his hands in defense, Lempi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lempi throws and elbow that misses. Balboa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lempi's guard. Nice move by Balboa!

Lempi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Balboa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lempi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lempi is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Balboa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Balboa wants to control from the top but Lempi keeps moving.
Balboa wants to stand but Lempi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Balboa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lempi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lempi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Balboa can't keep his opponent in guard - Lempi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Lempi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Balboa keeps working.
Lempi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Balboa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Balboa is trying to stand up here but Lempi is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lempi tries for a takedown but Balboa sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Balboa thows a body shot but no joy.
Lempi on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lempi fails with a takedown attempt.
Lempi shoots in and drives through. Balboa sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lauri Lempi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lempi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to avoid it but Lempi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Balboa to the ground. Balboa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Balboa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Robbie Balboa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lempi moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like Lauri Lempi has been cut.
Balboa digs a good body shot into Lempi's ribs.
Balboa lands a right hook to the body.

Balboa instigates a clinch.

Balboa manages to break the clinch.
Lempi misses with a takedown attempt - Balboa sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Balboa lands a with a good body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Balboa lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Balboa thuds a left hand into Lempi's body.
Balboa tests Lempi's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Balboa throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lempi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Balboa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Lempi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nice straight punches there by Balboa. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Balboa.
Lempi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Balboa cracks Lempi on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Lempi falls backwards against the cage. Balboa follows up with more strikes that drop Lempi to his knees. Balboa keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Lempi! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robbie Balboa!
Robbie Balboa is the new middleweight champion!
