PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Collin Highlander (ranked 2988 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Suh (ranked 4881 p4p, 164 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Suh's choice of entrance music: Make My Story. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Collin Highlander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Juan Suh!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Highlander tries to keep at a distance but Suh has taken the fight into the clinch.

Highlander successfully pulls guard.
Highlander wants to get back to his feet but Suh is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Highlander looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Highlander has his foot on Suh's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Suh works his way back into a safe position though.
Suh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Highlander is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suh throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Highlander works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Suh wants to pass the guard but Highlander is keeping the position.

Suh is looking to advance position but Highlander has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Suh's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Suh wants to hold on but Highlander pushes him away.

Highlander wants to control the pace but Suh is squirming around nicely.
Suh gets back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Highlander in particular looking to stall.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suh can do anything to dispel that myth.
Suh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Suh is refusing to be controlled, as Highlander sits in half guard.

Suh throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Suh is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Suh is staying active underneath Highlander, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Highlander throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Suh was covering up waiting for the punch and Highlander finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Highlander is looking to take a break and control but Suh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Highlander perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Highlander manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Highlander will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Suh stands up and waves to Highlander to follow him.

Suh gets to his feet. Highlander looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Suh has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Highlander is trying to keep an underhook but Suh manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Highlander shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Highlander showed some decent athleticism there.

Suh kicks Highlander off and gets back to his feet.

Suh tries to sprawl but Highlander drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Suh manages to escape and get back to his feet!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Highlander fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Suh to the ground. Highlander is now in Suh's guard.

Highlander stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Suh swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Suh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Suh enables Highlander to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Suh manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Suh is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Highlander dives into side control.

Suh is looking to reverse the position.
Highlander prevents Suh from escaping the position.
Suh tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suh takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Highlander decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Suh moves into range and clinches up with Highlander.

Highlander wants the takedown. Suh is fighting it off but Highlander persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Suh's guard against the cage.

Suh scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Highlander fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Suh, pushing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Suh can't get the takedown.

Highlander gets a trip takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Suh is looking for a sweep. Highlander is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Highlander manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Suh on his heels. He'll look to pass Suh's guard now, I'm sure.
Suh is looking to stand up but Highlander isn't so interested in that idea.
Suh wants to get back to his feet but Highlander passes into half guard.

Highlander looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Highlander's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
Collin Highlander showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Highlander has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
