PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Silver Fox (ranked 4704 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy McGinny (ranked 4855 p4p, 444 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Silver Fox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paddy McGinny !
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGinny shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fox manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Fox wants to get back to his feet but McGinny passes into half guard.

McGinny seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

McGinny decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Silver Fox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fox dives in and grabs McGinny 's left leg, looking for a takedown. McGinny pushes down on Fox's head and hops out.
Fox closes the distance and clinches up with McGinny , looking for a takedown. Fox pushes McGinny against the cage but McGinny circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fox really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGinny misses with a takedown attempt
and Fox counters with a left to the body.

McGinny closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fox quickly recovers to half guard.
Fox pushes McGinny off looking to stand but McGinny dives back in and keeps control.
McGinny takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

McGinny is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McGinny lands strikes from half guard.
Fox is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fox is in trouble now - McGinny has advanced to mount!
McGinny unloading with bombs!
McGinny landing punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGinny can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fox is looking to escape.
Fox knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McGinny on the ground.
McGinny sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fox is squirming around, avoiding McGinny 's attempts to control the action.
Fox wants to hold on but McGinny pushes him away.
McGinny controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A nice elbow there by McGinny .

McGinny has control of Fox's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Fox regains control of the situation pretty easily.
McGinny looking to control but Fox is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paddy McGinny dominated that round.
That's time! Fox's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



McGinny drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fox is looking to stand back up but McGinny counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Fox.

Fox keeping hold of McGinny 's head, controlling as best he can.

McGinny stands up and beckons Fox to join him on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fox shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McGinny but McGinny pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McGinny stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGinny wants it to stay on the feet.

McGinny fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Fox to the ground. McGinny is now in Fox's guard.

Fox working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because McGinny has passed into half guard!

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGinny is figuring out what he wants to do next.
McGinny seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Fox tries to roll over but McGinny keeps him under control.
McGinny works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McGinny has hold of Fox's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fox manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fox is trying to stand but he's just given McGinny his back.
McGinny controlling from the back.
McGinny controlling well, preventing Fox from escaping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGinny controls the position.
McGinny is landing with strikes. Fox can't take much more of this.
I really don't envy Fox right now.

McGinny has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Fox is in real trouble here. McGinny gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Fox is tapping out! McGinny wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Paddy McGinny !
