PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Power!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Power tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range.
Power throws a head kick that misses.
Max Power seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Power looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Power tries to clinch up but Gracie circles away and keeps his distance.
Power is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.
Power misses with a series of wild punches.
Power tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Power changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to avoid it but Power manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gracie to the ground. Gracie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Power counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Gracie managing to control the position.
Power is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Power from controlling successfully.
Power must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Power trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gracie pulls Power in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Power is one step ahead there.
Power wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard.
Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Power's guard.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Power is keeping the position.
Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Power will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Power looks gassed!
Gracie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Power is looking for a triangle but Gracie pushes his legs off easily.
Power can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gracie content to control rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Power won't allow Gracie to pass to mount.
Gracie is working hard here to advance position.
Power is in trouble now - Gracie has advanced to mount!
Gracie fails to move to back control.
Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bob Gracie just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Power looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Power looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Gracie keeps the fight on the outside.
Power tries a head kick but it misses.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Power wants to clinch.

Gracie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Power is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but Power is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gracie has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gracie seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Power for as long as he can get away with.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Power is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Power controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Power trying to control here.

Power pushes Gracie off and gets back to his feet.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.
Gracie has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Power is looking to improve his position but Gracie isn't that keen on the idea.
Gracie controlling from the full mount.
Gracie moves to the back.
Bob Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gracie has the hooks in. Power is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Gracie biding his time, controlling Power.
Gracie is not going to allow Power to sit and survive in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bob Gracie just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Power!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Power.
Power is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.
Power looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Power swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in half guard, Gracie seems content to control.
Power is looking to improve his position.
Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Power's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Power.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie controlling his opponent.
Gracie forces the positional change into back control.
Gracie slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Power manages to escape to his feet.

Gracie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is taking a breather. Power says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Power is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Power gets full guard.
Power is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie stays in close to Power's body and controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gracie advances position into side control!
Power tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Gracie staying calm.
Power is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gracie is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Power's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bob Gracie just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Power throws a right and a left that both miss.

Gracie scores with a takedown into Power's guard.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gracie prevents Power from escaping the position.
Gracie is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Power will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Max Power has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gracie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
