Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fatu Masiwera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mark Hines!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hines clinches.
Masiwera lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Mark Hines has been cut.
Hines looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Hines pulls guard.
Hines is pulling down on Masiwera's head. It's preventing any offense from Masiwera, at least for the moment.
Masiwera wants to get up but he can't break Hines's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Hines managing to control the position.
Masiwera trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hines's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hines is pulling down on Masiwera's head to control his posture.
Masiwera has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hines bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Masiwera's guard.


Hines drops back looking for a leg! Masiwera is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Masiwera manages to kick Hines off! Hines jumps back into Masiwera's guard.
Hines postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Masiwera being controlled here, momentarily.
Hines forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hines takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hines works his way into side control.
Masiwera knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hines on the ground.
Hines content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Hines works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masiwera is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hines asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hines has hold of Masiwera's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Masiwera tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hines cranks the arm and Masiwera screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Masiwera, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mark Hines!
