PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luke Neil (ranked 1734 p4p, 213 weight class) and Peter Dinklage (ranked 2874 p4p, 324 weight class). Neil comes into the arena with Linkin Park - In the end blaring out of the sound system. Luke Neil has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luke Neil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Dinklage!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Neil gets the takedown into side control.
Neil is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dinklage's shoulder. That is not cool.
Neil tries to move to mount but Dinklage blocks the move with his legs.
Neil content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dinklage wants to control but Neil postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dinklage looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Neil looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Neil fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dinklage manages to avoid it.
Dinklage tries to clinch but Neil is having none of it.
Neil avoids a punch combination nicely.

Neil closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dinklage's guard.
Dinklage is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Neil dives into side control.
Dinklage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Neil controls the position.

Neil looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here as Neil stalls from top position.
Dinklage felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neil seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dinklage for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neil continues to stall.
Neil in side control, throwing shots but Dinklage defends.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Neil tries to advance to mount but Dinklage denies him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dinklage throws a push kick but Neil slaps the foot to one side.
Dinklage lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Neil circles away quickly and effectively.
Neil feinted with a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Neil dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Dinklage gets caught napping as Neil dives in and scores a takedown. Dinklage manages to retain guard.
Neil controlling from the top position.

Dinklage is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neil tries to break free but Dinklage pushes him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Neil's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dinklage checks the leg kick nicely there.
Dinklage sizes up Neil with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Neil looks to land a combination but Dinklage avoids it well.
Neil is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dinklage can do to turn this around?
Dinklage fails to land with a series of punches.
A combination from Dinklage does no damage.
Luke Neil is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Neil misses with a wild combination.
Donk. Neil catches Dinklage right on the button with a cross.
Neil pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Neil misses with a straight right.
Dinklage clobbers Neil with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Neil swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dinklage counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Neil throws a combination that misses
and Dinklage counters with a three punch combo that has Neil backing up. Neil nods at Dinklage to acknowledge the strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Neil gets a takedown into half guard.
Neil trying to control from half guard but Dinklage is working away.
Neil not doing much here.
Neil has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Neil closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dinklage to the mat! Dinklage manages to get full guard.
Neil slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Neil trying to control but Dinklage is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Peter Dinklage will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Neil's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Neil shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dinklage is trying to defend but Neil finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Neil seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
More hug and hope from Neil.

Dinklage is trying to stand back up but Neil is controlling him

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dinklage misses with an attempted mid kick.
Dinklage feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Neils jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Dinklage scores with a kick to the midsection.
A big left from Dinklage misses.
Neil closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dinklage circles away.
No luck for Neil with that takedown attempt.
No joy there for Neil, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Neil scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Neil lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Neil misses with a two punch combination.
Dinklage thuds his right hand into Neil's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Neil scores with a one two! Dinklage had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Peter Dinklage has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dinklage ducks under a wild hook from Neil.
Neil swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dinklage cracks the inside of Neil's front leg.
Neil takes a swing at Dinklage's ribcage but misses.
Neil misses with a hook.
Dinklage throws a head kick but Neil moves out of range.
A combination from Neil does no damage.
Dinklage looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Neil throws a nice looking combination but Dinklage bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dinklage moves into range and connects with a jab.
Neil takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Dinklage scores with a jab. Neil acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Dinklage smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Neil throws a solid leg kick but Dinklage takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Neil.
Neil on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dinklage misses with a head kick.
Neil misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Neil. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Neil looks to land a combination but Dinklage avoids it well.
Dinklage throws a series of punches but Neil moves out of range.

Neil bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Neil controlling the position.
Neil is looking to take a break and control but Dinklage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neil is trying to get an arm triangle but Dinklage is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luke Neil.
I think Neil has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
