The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dirkschneider fails in his attempt to clinch.
Solass lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dirkschneider circles away quickly and effectively.

Dirkschneider shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We've been hearing that Dirkschneider has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Solass had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dirkschneider defends it easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Solass is looking to stand up but Dirkschneider isn't so interested in that idea.

Dirkschneider wants to try and get back to his feet.
Dirkschneider trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Solass swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Dirkschneider is now in Solass's guard. A big mistake from Solass there, giving up the dominant position!

Solass is looking for a triangle but Dirkschneider pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Udo Dirkschneider will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Solass tries a head kick but it misses.

Dirkschneider closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Solass's guard.

Dirkschneider is fighting to break Solass's control of his arms but Solass is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Solass is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Solass has his foot on Dirkschneider's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dirkschneider works his way back into a safe position though.

Dirkschneider tries to free his leg and advance position but Solass is retaining full guard.

Solass is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dirkschneider won't allow Solass to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dirkschneider lands with a kick to the temple. Solass shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Dirkschneider scores with a hook to the body. Solass takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Solass leaves Dirkschneider with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
It seemed like Solass was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Oooooh!!! Dirkschneider has knocked Solass down with a huge combo! Dirkschneider steps away and waves a wobbly Solass back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Solass is rocked!

It looks like Augustine Solass has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Solass content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Dirkschneider has locked up a guillotine! Dirkschneider's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Solass is holding on here and Dirkschneider must be using up a lot of energy. Solass has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Dirkschneider gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
