Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bronson Hughes (ranked 2355 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Sands (ranked 3364 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes comes to the cage accompanied by Slam - By: Onyx. Sands has chosen Irish Soldier Song ... Free & Green as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Bobby Sands enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bronson Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Sands!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sands to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hughes wants to sweep here but Sands controlling him for the moment.
Hughes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hughes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sands trying to control the position from guard on top but Hughes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Sands manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Hughes buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Hughes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Hughes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Sands is trying to improve his position.
Hughes misses with the ground and pound.
Bobby Sands has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sands manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hughes is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Sands defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Hughes is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sands is defending well though. Hughes let's go of the attempt for now.
Hughes has the hooks in. Sands is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

I really don't envy Sands right now.
Hughes is landing with strikes. Sands can't take much more of this.

Sands is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hughes gets his way!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sands tries to close the distance and clinch but Hughes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sands changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hughes tries to avoid it but Sands manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hughes to the ground. Hughes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sands takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Sands.
Hughes throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sands sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Hughes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sands swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Hughes connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sands. Sands circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Sands pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hughes tried to counter with a leg kick but Sands avoided it.
Hughes throws a front kick that sends Sands stumbling back into the cage.

and Sands counters with a straight right hand.

Hughes gets tackled into the cage by Sands. Sands maintains the clinch.

Sands manages to pull guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hughes's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sands is looking to stand up but Hughes isn't so interested in that idea.
Hughes throws an elbow that misses. Sands uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Sands!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bronson Hughes.
I think Hughes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
