PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abel Frey (ranked 4195 p4p, 153 weight class) and Timi Boss (ranked 4361 p4p, 160 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abel Frey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boss bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Frey has a takedown stuffed.
Frey blocks a head kick by Boss.
Boss fails to land the takedown.
Boss shoots in but Frey avoids the takedown attempt easily.
It looked like Frey was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Boss.
Frey misses with a takedown attempt
and Boss counters with a left and a right that stings Frey.
Frey throws a combination that misses

and Boss counters by clinching up.

Boss's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frey is looking to clinch but Boss is avoiding it.

Boss has managed to clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Boss has Frey pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Frey manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Abel Frey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timi Boss.

Boss escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Boss looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Frey is fending him off so far but Boss persists. Nope, Frey circles away and we're back to standing.
Frey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boss moves to clinch but Frey breaks away

and Frey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Boss manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Frey wants a takedown but no success here.
Frey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Frey stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Boss jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Frey walks away with a smile on his face. Boss gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown attempt by Boss or perhaps it was just good defense by Frey, which made it look bad.
Frey dives in for a single leg takedown but Boss sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Frey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Boss has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Frey.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Frey defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boss.
Frey dodges the punch combination from Boss.

Frey moves into range and clinches up with Boss.
Frey tries to score a body lock takedown but Boss shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for Frey to work.

Boss ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Boss no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Frey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boss is keeping the position for now.
Boss is adopting a defensive guard.
Frey trying to control the position from guard on top but Boss is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boss is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Boss pulls Frey in close to prevent any damage.

Boss has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Frey doesn't defend quickly enough and Boss has managed to lock this one up! Can Frey escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Boss on a fantastic submission victory.
