Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Doms (ranked 1300 p4p, 157 weight class) and Douglas Dannis (ranked 1825 p4p, 213 weight class). Frankie Doms had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frankie Doms!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Douglas Dannis!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dannis takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Dannis throws out a counter right but Doms avoids it with no problem.
Dannis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Doms tries to land a body kick
and Dannis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Doms scores with a nice body kick.
Doms is looking to land body kicks.

Dannis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dannis keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Doms's efforts to push away.
Doms is stalling here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Doms breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Doms throws a lazy body kick
and Dannis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Doms has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Dannis misses the shot to the body.
Frankie Doms is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Dannis clinches.

Doms breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Dannis checks a leg kick.
Doms scores with a push kick.
Doms throws a leg kick but Dannis moved away.
Frankie Doms seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dannis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Doms.
Dannis lands the left hand.
Doms swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Doms tries to land a front kick but Dannis steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A little jabbing left from Dannis on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Dannis moves out of range of the body kick from Doms.

Dannis looks for a takedown but Doms sprawls well.
Dannis goes for a double leg but Doms avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Doms continues to drive forward.
Dannis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Doms can pounce on him.
Doms throws a wild body kick that Dannis sees coming a mile off.

and Doms takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head kick by Doms misses
and Dannis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Doms goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Doms lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A solid body kick from Doms.
Dannis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Dannis shoots in for a takedown but Doms shows good takedown defense.
Frankie Doms has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Dannis.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dannis.

Doms misses with a low kick.
Dannis looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Dannis takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

and Doms counters with a body kick that stops Dannis in his tracks momentarily.
Dannis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Doms.
Dannis blocks a low kick nicely.
Doms sets himself, and Dannis steps forward looking for the clinch! Doms avoids it this time.

Dannis avoids a kick to the body.
Dannis looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Doms thows a body kick. Dannis tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Doms throws a leg kick which misses Dannis's front leg but catches the back leg as Dannis tries to avoid it.

Doms throws a sloppy head kick and Dannis moves out of range easily.

A bone on bone clash there as Dannis blocks the leg kick.
Doms throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Dannis counters with a slapping leg kick.
Doms circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dannis checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Dannis steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Dannis clinches up with Doms and pushes him back against the cage.

Doms tries to circle away but Dannis has him pinned against the cage.

Doms manages to break the clinch.
Dannis avoids the body shot from Doms.
Doms scores with a kick to the body.
Doms does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Doms dominated that round.
That's time! Doms's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Dannis checks the leg kick nicely there.
A head kick misses from Doms.
Dannis looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Dannis has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Doms.
A clash of legs there as Dannis blocks the low kick.
Doms lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Dannis fails with an attempt to clinch.
Dannis closes the distance but Doms moves to the side
and Doms counters with a nice body kick.

Dannis drives through with a takedown into Doms's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Dannis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doms swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dannis stops Doms from standing up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Dannis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Doms misses with a body kick.
Dannis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Doms moves away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Doms. That's going to slow Dannis down.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dannis or perhaps it was just good defense by Doms, which made it look bad.
Doms fires out a quick counter leg kick but Dannis just manages to avoid it.

letting Dannis counter with a right hand.
Doms misses with a hook. Dannis ducked under it nicely.

A nice side step and Dannis releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Dannis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Doms was well out of range. Poor timing from Dannis.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doms lands a head kick. Dannis smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Dannis counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Dannis lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Dannis keeps control of Doms as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Dannis doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Doms lands a nice leg kick that just misses Dannis's sensitive parts.
Dannis misses with a right hand
and Doms counters with an inside leg kick.

and Dannis counters with a slapping leg kick.

and Dannis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Doms, right into the meat.
Doms throws the kick towards the body but Dannis avoids it.
Dannis takes a swing at Doms's ribcage but misses.
Doms fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Dannis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Frankie Doms has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Dannis.
A solid leg kick lands there for Doms.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frankie Doms showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doms, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
