Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the cage accompanied by Bob Marley - Get Up Stand Up. Rickson Emelianenko will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alves.
Alves thuds his right hand into Emelianenko's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alves is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Emelianenko.
Alves uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Emelianenko has time to react.
Horrible takedown by Emelianenko or perhaps it was just good defense by Alves which made him look bad.
Alves lands a nice shot to the body.

Alves lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Emelianenko ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Alves throws a hook to the side of Emelianenko's head but Emelianenko sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Emelianenko tries to close the distance and clinch but Alves swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Emelianenko bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Emelianenko looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Emelianenko wants to work for an arm triangle but Alves is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Emelianenko slips a nice elbow through Alves's hands, connecting with Alves's forehead.
Alves won't allow Emelianenko to pass to mount.

Emelianenko is trying to control the action in half guard but Alves is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura here.

Emelianenko looking for a submission but Alves manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Emelianenko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Alves is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Emelianenko, into his guard.
Alves wants to stand but Emelianenko has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Emelianenko has his foot on Alves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alves works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alves cracks Emelianenko with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Emelianenko is trying to work for a kimura but Alves is defending well.

Alves is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Alves defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Emelianenko.
Alves is looking to improve his position but Emelianenko isn't that keen on the idea.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Alves is not content to let Emelianenko control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Emelianenko thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Emelianenko is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Alves avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Emelianenko.

Emelianenko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Emelianenko throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Emelianenko tries to move to mount but Alves blocks the move with his legs.
Alves is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Emelianenko has a takedown stuffed.
Emelianenko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alves tries to avoid it but Emelianenko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alves to the ground. Alves escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Emelianenko takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Alves works over Emelianenko's head and body with a nice combination.
Alves is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Emelianenko.
Alves will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That was a close second round but I would say that Felipe Alves will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches up with Alves, looking for a takedown. Emelianenko pushes Alves against the cage but Alves circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Emelianenko has gone for a leg lock! Alves slips out almost immediately though and dives into Emelianenko's guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
