PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Macimus Perfecticus (ranked 5761 p4p, 456 weight class) and Mick Mentrennel (ranked 25007 p4p, 525 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mentrennel fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck for Mentrennel with that takedown attempt.
Perfecticus misses with a few strikes there.
Perfecticus slaps away a takedown attempt from Mentrennel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Perfecticus is looking for a counter combo.

Perfecticus shoots in looking for a takedown but Mentrennel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Perfecticus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Mentrennel is trying to force a seperation but Perfecticus has the dominant position.
Perfecticus tries to break free but Mentrennel pushes him back against the cage.
Perfecticus tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Mentrennel tries to break the clinch but Perfecticus is controlling the position.

Mentrennel jumps guard but Perfecticus stands there with Mentrennel around his waist. Mentrennel gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Perfecticus is trying to drag Mentrennel to the mat but Mentrennel just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mentrennel is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Perfecticus has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mentrennel after a bit of a struggle.

Perfecticus keeps control of Mentrennel as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Perfecticus tries to throw a body punch but Mentrennel avoids it by throwing Perfecticus back against the cage.
Perfecticus lands a left hand that snaps the head of Mentrennel backwards.
Perfecticus wants to take the fight to the mat but Mentrennel manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mentrennel tries to break the clinch but Perfecticus is controlling the position.

A head punch on the inside from Perfecticus fails to land.
Perfecticus using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mentrennel has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Mentrennel tries for a takedown but Perfecticus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mentrennel tries to close the distance and clinch but Perfecticus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Perfecticus checks a low kick from Mentrennel.

Mentrennel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Perfecticus pinned against the cage. Perfecticus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Perfecticus half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mentrennel wants to clinch up but Perfecticus keeps it at a distance.
A counter left hand to the body from Perfecticus misses its target.

Perfecticus closes the distance and pushes Mentrennel back into the cage.

Perfecticus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mentrennel circles away.

Mentrennel gets tackled into the cage by Perfecticus. Perfecticus maintains the clinch.
