PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Asakura (ranked 6824 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tumleh Schmitt (ranked 2462 p4p, 0 weight class). Asakura comes to the cage accompanied by JJBA - Giorno's Theme. Tumleh Schmitt will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tyson Asakura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Tumleh Schmitt!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmitt gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Asakura counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Asakura is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Schmitt!

Schmitt wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Asakura.
Asakura takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Schmitt is squirming around, avoiding Asakura's attempts to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

BOOM! Asakura connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Asakura's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Asakura moves into the clinch.
Asakura gets underhooks to prevent Schmitt's takedown attempt.

Asakura is in close to Schmitt's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Asakura seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Schmitt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Asakura manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Asakura has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Schmitt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Asakura has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Schmitt moves in looking to clinch but Asakura pushes him off.

Schmitt gets caught napping as Asakura dives in and scores a takedown. Schmitt manages to retain guard.

Schmitt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Asakura postures up and lands a big shot to Schmitt's brow.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Asakura throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Schmitt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Asakura is in Schmitt's guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Asakura bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Asakura is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Schmitt has escaped the position, nice work there.
Schmitt is not content to let Asakura control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Schmitt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Asakura landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Asakura seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Asakura is pressing down on Schmitt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Schmitt is holding on for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Asakura connects with a couple of short punches.

Asakura is fighting to break Schmitt's control of his arms but Schmitt is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Tumleh Schmitt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Asakura manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Schmitt on his heels. He'll look to pass Schmitt's guard now, I'm sure.

Asakura has gone for a leg lock! Schmitt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Asakura's guard.

Asakura lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Asakura, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
