PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kyle ONeill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Hugo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kyle ONeill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Victor Hugo!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hugo misses with a series of wild punches.
ONeill looks for a takedown but Hugo sprawls well.
ONeill changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hugo tries to avoid it but ONeill manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hugo to the ground. Hugo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
ONeill looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle ONeill. That's going to take a lot out of him.
ONeill tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hugo fails to land with a series of punches.
ONeill moves in looking to clinch but Hugo pushes him off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
ONeill shoots in looking for a takedown. Hugo tries to sprawl out of it but ONeill keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hugo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
ONeill tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

ONeill shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hugo as he jumps to the side.
ONeill tries to clinch up but Hugo circles away and keeps his distance.
ONeill swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Hugo counters with a nice double leg into guard.
ONeill is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

and Hugo counters with a three punch combo that has ONeill backing up. ONeill nods at Hugo to acknowledge the strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now ONeill is on top in guard.
ONeill pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hugo is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

ONeill closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
ONeill wants to control but Hugo is keeping him busy.

ONeill shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hugo but Hugo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hugo feints and as ONeill raises his hands in defense, Hugo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hugo wants to stand and escape but instead ONeill has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
ONeill content to stall in guard here.
ONeill wants to control from the top but Hugo keeps moving.

Hugo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as ONeill controls the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
ONeill thows a huge punch but Hugo dodges it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
ONeill working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
ONeill seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

ONeill shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. ONeill showed some decent athleticism there.
ONeill throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Hugo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hugo throws a series of punches but ONeill avoids them all with ease.

Hugo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kyle ONeill overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hugo can do anything to dispel that myth.
ONeill pushes down on Hugo's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

ONeill is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Hugo has managed to free his arm - good work.
ONeill slows the pace down in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kyle ONeill showed his dominance in that final round.
I think ONeill has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
