PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vernon Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Smith was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Smith throws an overhand right that lands on Turner's shoulder, as Turner tries to avoid the shot.
Smith misses with a wild body shot.
Turner shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Turner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Turner misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Smith throws a hook but Turner avoids it easily.

Smith looks to throw the jab but Turner is out of range.
Turner ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Turner steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Turner displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smith throws out the jab.

Turner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Turner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Turner wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Turner shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Turner keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Turner throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.
Turner looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Turner persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.

Donk. Smith catches Turner right on the button with a cross.
Turner connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smith. Smith circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Smith tries to clinch but Turner is having none of it.
Smith throws a sloppy body shot
and Turner counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Smith connects with a nice looking jab.
Smith might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith is looking to clinch.
Turner takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Horrible takedown by Turner or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Turner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Turner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Turner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Smith wants to stand but Turner is controlling the position.
Turner is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Turner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
