Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joeseph Ballin (ranked 4553 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Ruiz (ranked 4765 p4p, 468 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt - Ballin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ballin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ruiz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ruiz tries to clinch but Ballin is having none of it.
Ballin looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Ruiz shoots for a double leg takedown but Ballin sprawls well. He's pushed Ruiz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Joeseph Ballin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Javier Ruiz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ballin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Ruiz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ballin smiles and moves away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ruiz tries to keep at a distance but Ballin has taken the fight into the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ballin just misses with a elbow thrown towards Ruiz's brow.

Ruiz crunches a lovely knee into Ballin's ribcage.
Ruiz jumps guard but Ballin stands there with Ruiz around his waist. Ruiz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ballin is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Ballin is pushing Ruiz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Ballin keeps control of Ruiz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ruiz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ballin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Ballin using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ruiz has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ruiz is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ballin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ruiz to the mat. Ruiz regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Ruiz wants to get back to his feet but Ballin passes into half guard.

Ballin slows the pace down in half guard.
Ballin passes to side control.

Ballin stands up and beckons Ruiz to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ballin misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ruiz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ballin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ruiz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ballin's waist but Ballin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruiz off to one side.

Ballin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruiz sprawls well. Ruiz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ballin gets slowly back to his feet.

Ballin is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Ballin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ruiz can do to turn this around?

Ballin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ruiz uses from the top position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ballin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ballin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruiz manages to get himself to full guard.

Ruiz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ballin controls the pace.
Ruiz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ballin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ballin stands and steps away. Ruiz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ballin goes for a double leg but Ruiz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ruiz continues to drive forward.

Ballin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
