Maia uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by gunter.
Maia misses with a double jab.
Maia takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
gunter closes the distance and clinches.
Maia makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Maia pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
gunter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maia looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maia looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maia!
Maia trying to control the position but gunter is working away.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Maia is looking to take a break and control but gunter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Maia wants to control for a moment but gunter uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
gunter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

gunter frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
gunter has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Maia's face.
gunter lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Maia hang on?

Maia keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Oh Maia is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
gunter wants to finish this one by submission but Maia is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from gunter.

gunter with shots to the head and body - Maia looks very uncomfortable down there.
Maia takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! gunter's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
