PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Charles Farias (ranked 2750 p4p, 303 weight class) and Matt Van Bromer (ranked 2378 p4p, 261 weight class). Farias comes to the cage accompanied by Notorious B.I.G - Juicy. Van Bromer has chosen Go To War - Nothing More as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charles Farias!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt Van Bromer!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Van Bromer crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Farias - the referee stops the clock and Van Bromer gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Farias. Van Bromer manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Farias pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Van Bromer drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Farias defends it well.

Van Bromer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Farias to the ground. Van Bromer is now in Farias's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Van Bromer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Farias is trying to defend but Van Bromer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Farias is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Matt Van Bromer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Van Bromer postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Van Bromer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Farias, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In defeat, Matt Van Bromer stepped up to the mic, saying 'That's not good'.
