PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shicko Boom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shicko Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Liam Woods!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Liam Woods seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Boom instigates a clinch.
Woods tries to land knees in the clinch but Boom avoids the damage to the body.
Woods is trying to maintain a safe position but Boom gets an underhook and turns Woods into the cage.
Woods tries for a takedown but Boom manages to get underhooks.
Woods drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Boom gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Shicko Boom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Woods.
Woods looks gassed!

Boom drags the fight down to the ground.
Boom wants to stand and escape but Woods is having none of it.
Woods wants to control from the top but Boom keeps moving.
Woods won't allow Boom to get back to his feet.
Boom doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Boom keeping moving, preventing Woods from controlling successfully.

Boom is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boom looking for a sweep. Not yet Boom, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boom swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Woods moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Boom fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A head kick misses from Boom.
No luck for Woods with that takedown attempt.
Boom closes the distance and clinches up with Woods, looking for a takedown. Boom pushes Woods against the cage but Woods circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Boom rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Woods moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Boom counters with a shoot takedown. Woods fights it but they end up in guard.
Woods keeping moving, preventing Boom from controlling successfully.
Boom tries to stand but Woods is controlling from the bottom.
Woods is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boom is controlling him.

Boom loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Woods keeping full guard, as Boom tries to pass.

Boom stands and steps away. Woods gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Horrible takedown by Boom or perhaps it was just good defense by Woods which made him look bad.
Boom keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Woods gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woods working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boom.

Woods is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boom throwing strikes from guard but Woods blocks nicely.
Boom is working Woods over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Boom trying to control the position from guard on top but Woods is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shicko Boom dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Boom decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Woods blocking the ground and pound attempt from Boom.
Boom trying to mount his opponent but Woods defends it.
Boom lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Boom is trying to control the action in half guard but Woods is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Woods wants to control but Boom is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Woods is trying to stand.

Boom is trying to work for a kimura but Woods is defending well.
Woods is staying active underneath Boom, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Boom darts in and clinches Woods up against the cage.
Boom landing knees to the body.
Woods throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Boom blocks it with crossed arms.
Woods misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Boom.
Boom jumps guard but Woods stands there with Boom around his waist. Boom gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Boom breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Boom darts in and clinches Woods up against the cage.
Woods jumps guard but Boom stands there with Woods around his waist. Woods gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Woods landing knees to the head.

Boom fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Boom tries for a takedown but Woods manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shicko Boom. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boom on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Woods successfully pulls guard.
Boom controlling from the top position.
Boom wants to control from the top but Woods keeps moving.

Woods had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Boom is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Woods Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Boom's back instead.

Boom rolls, trying to escape but Woods keeps control of the position.
Woods misses with punches from the back.
Boom is really stuck here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Woods thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Boom's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Boom trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Boom wants to escape the position.

Woods tightening his grip on Boom, looking for the choke.
Boom tries to roll but Woods sticks to his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shicko Boom dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Boom wants to improve his position but Woods is controlling well.
Boom is working hard here to advance position.

Woods is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Boom has managed to free his arm - good work.
Boom is trying to stand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boom makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Boom.
Woods prevents Boom from getting back to his feet.

Woods drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Boom dives on top into guard.
Boom is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Boom forces his way into half guard.
Boom wants to free his trapped foot but Woods is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boom is thwarting Woods's attempts to control the position.
Woods wants to get back to his feet.
Boom works his foot free and advances to mount.
Woods is trying to reverse the position but instead Boom has taken his back - oops!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woods is in bad spot here.
Woods prevents Boom from getting a body triangle.
Boom is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Woods wants to control his opponent's hands but Boom gets his hands free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Can Woods hold on?! Boom is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Liam Woods has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boom tries to keep control of the position but Woods is staying busy.
Shicko Boom is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Woods controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shicko Boom showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Boom, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
