PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dand Prem (ranked 6474 p4p, 153 weight class) and Zeru Subramaniam (ranked 5919 p4p, 146 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dand Prem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Zeru Subramaniam!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Prem forces Subramaniam back against the cage and clinches.
Subramaniam wants to break the clinch but can't.
Prem missing with knees to the body.
Subramaniam wants to break free but Prem has control.
Prem lands a nice uppercut.
Subramaniam jumps guard but Prem stands there with Subramaniam around his waist. Subramaniam gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Prem tries to pull guard but Subramaniam holds him up against the cage and eventually Prem drops back down to his feet.
Subramaniam is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Prem to keep the fight standing.
Subramaniam misses with a shot to the kidneys.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Subramaniam keeps control of Prem as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Prem tries to pull guard but Subramaniam holds him up against the cage and eventually Prem drops back down to his feet.
Prem's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Prem blocks an elbow strike.

Prem has Subramaniam pressed against the cage.

Subramaniam drags the fight down to the ground.
Prem wants to stand but Subramaniam has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Subramaniam pulls Prem in to control the position.
Prem trying to control but Subramaniam is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prem won't allow Subramaniam to sweep him here.
Prem trying to control the position from guard on top but Subramaniam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Prem would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Prem trying to control but Subramaniam is working from the bottom.
Prem might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Prem looking to pass the guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Prem gets caught napping as Subramaniam dives in and scores a takedown. Prem manages to retain guard.
Prem looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Subramaniam sitting in guard here, content to control.

It looks like Subramaniam might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Subramaniam throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Prem works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Subramaniam is pushing down on Prem's leg trying to pass to half guard. Prem is fighting to maintain full guard but Subramaniam has managed to sneak the leg through.
Subramaniam content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Subramaniam moves into full mount! Prem won't be happy about that!
Prem is trying to escape the mount.

Subramaniam looking to control and managing it successfully.
Prem is in all sorts of trouble here.
Subramaniam landing strikes from the mount.
Prem wants to control but Subramaniam is having none of it.
Subramaniam content just to control the position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Let's hope that Subramaniam has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Subramaniam wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zeru Subramaniam dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Prem is looking to clinch.
Prem tries to clinch up

and Subramaniam counters with a shoot takedown. Prem fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Subramaniam won't allow Prem to get back to his feet.
Subramaniam slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Subramaniam has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Subramaniam stopping the sweep attempt from Prem.

Subramaniam is in close to Prem's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Subramaniam advances position into side control!
Subramaniam wants to stand but Prem is controlling his arm.

Prem is trying to control Subramaniam's posture but Subramaniam avoids it.
Prem takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Prem tries to bench press Subramaniam off him but Subramaniam keeps the position.

Subramaniam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Prem is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Zeru Subramaniam has got the better of the ground game so far.
Subramaniam tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Subramaniam lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Prem is trying to buck Subramaniam off.
Subramaniam scores with a couple of short elbows.
Prem is letting Subramaniam control him for a moment.

Prem is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Subramaniam has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Subramaniam in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Subramaniam in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Subramaniam wants to stand but Prem is controlling his arm.
Subramaniam takes a little break here. Prem wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Subramaniam looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Prem controls Subramaniam momentarily but Subramaniam frees himself.

Subramaniam wants to stand but Prem has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Zeru Subramaniam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Prem is looking to clinch.
Subramaniam lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
The fight stays on the outside here - Prem looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Subramaniam throws a head kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Prem.
Prem darts in looking for a takedown but Subramaniam gets double underhooks and turns Prem into the cage.
Prem doesn't manage to clinch there - Subramaniam circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prem wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Subramaniam jumps guard and drags Prem to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Prem has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Subramaniam has Prem pulled in close to control his posture.
Prem won't allow Subramaniam to sweep him here.

Prem is fighting to break Subramaniam's control of his arms but Subramaniam is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Subramaniam wants to sweep here but Prem controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Subramaniam misses with a series of wild punches.
Subramaniam goes for a double leg but Prem avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Prem continues to drive forward.
Prem wants to clinch up but Subramaniam keeps it at a distance.
Subramaniam shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Prem sprawls well. Prem wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Subramaniam gets slowly back to his feet.
Prem misses with a double jab.

Prem moves into the clinch successfully.

Prem breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Prem clinches.
Prem tries to pull guard but Subramaniam won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dand Prem. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Subramaniam wants to get back to striking at distance but Prem won't allow it.
Subramaniam goes for a takedown attempt but Prem pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Prem is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Subramaniam shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Prem defends it nicely.
Prem swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Subramaniam throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Prem is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Prem fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Prem throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Prem dodges the punch combination from Subramaniam.
Subramaniam looks to land a combination but Prem avoids it well.
Prem appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Subramaniam takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Subramaniam scores with a jab. Prem acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Subramaniam blocks a head kick by Prem.
Prem moves out of range of the body kick.

Prem tries to clinch there but Subramaniam circles away.

Subramaniam looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Dand Prem has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Zeru Subramaniam is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Prem escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Subramaniam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zeru Subramaniam comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Subramaniam winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
