Hughes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Hughes goes for a double leg but Zivic avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Zivic continues to drive forward.
Johnny Zivic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes swings for the body but Zivic moves out of range.
Zivic has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.#TD2#
Hughes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zivic was covering up waiting for the punch and Hughes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hughes throws an elbow that misses. Zivic uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Zivic!#REVR#
Zivic is looking to stand up but Hughes won't let him.
Zivic trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.

Zivic stands and throws Hughes's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hughes is not content to let Zivic control the position.
Hughes tries to control but Zivic manages to take his back.

Zivic is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hughes is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Zivic is not going to allow Hughes to sit and survive in this position.
You can see the frustration on Hughes's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Hughes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hughes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sammartino on the ground.
Sammartino taking punishment in the form of punches.
Sammartino takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Hughes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hughes looks up at the clock and then as Sammartino takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hughes smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Sammartino is trying to get back to half guard.
Hughes lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sammartino down.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hughes is working Sammartino over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hughes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sammartino's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hughes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sammartino's head.
Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sammartino swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sammartino controls Hughes momentarily but Hughes frees himself.
Hughes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hughes distracts Sammartino with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hughes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.#ROC#

Sammartino is trying to keep Hughes in close.

Hughes lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hughes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.#SUB2#
Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sammartino has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between Sammartino's legs - danger averted.
Sammartino has momentary wrist control but Hughes slips an elbow through the middle.
Hughes arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Sammartino's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
