and Malainen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Malainen sizes up Hawat with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hawat takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Hawat shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Malainen as he jumps to the side.
Malainen lands a jab.
Thufir Hawat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nice takedown defense from Hawat. No joy for Yates on that attempt.
Hawat looks to land a combination but Yates avoids it well.
Hawat feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Yates's calf.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Hawat has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Hawat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pildersen tries to avoid it but Hawat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pildersen to the ground. Pildersen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
