Guba moves forwards but Melo connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Eddie Melo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guba takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Guba's coach down at Kung Fu Fighting Club ($120 entry fee) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Guba's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Melo clobbers Guba with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Melo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Guba walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Melo scores with a head kick. Guba tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Guba takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Melo lands a head kick. Guba smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Melo's corner calls for a 1-2. Melo obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Guba shoots in looking for a takedown. Melo tries to sprawl out of it but Guba keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Melo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Guba misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Melo.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Melo walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Guba drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Melo swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Guba's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Batiatus swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Guba.
Batiatus digs a good body shot into Guba's ribs.
Batiatus doesn't manage to clinch there - Guba circles away.
Guba half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Batiatus sizes up Guba with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Batiatus lands a right hook to the body.
Batiatus stalks Guba and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Guba's face. Guba staggers backwards, shaken.
Guba has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Batiatus uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Guba.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
