Creed throws a left and a right that both miss

and Veri counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Creed knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Veri on the ground.
Veri trying to control the position from guard on top but Creed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Veri stands and throws Creed's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Veri works to advance to full mount. Creed defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Creed really wants to buck Veri off and get back to his feet. #SU2#
Veri stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
A big right from Veri misses.
Creed feinted with a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Creed rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Veri moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Veri feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.#T1##SUB2#

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Veri misses with a lunging right hand
and Hughes cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.#CUT#
It looks like Pol Veri has been cut.
Hughes throws a series of punches but Veri moves out of range.
Veri gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Hughes gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Veri is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricky Hughes!
Ricky Hughes is the new super heavyweight champion!
The defeated Pol Veri had this to say: 'Well done to my opponent, but know this, when we meet again, it will be you begging for mercy!'.

Bell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A slow jab from Bell misses its intended target.
Veri now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Veri is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Veri has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Bell defend it? Veri steps over the head and cranks it - Bell is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Veri!

Bell tries for a takedown but Veri sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Veri drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bell defends it well.

Veri has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Veri has hold of Hatch's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hatch seems comfortable defending it but Veri has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hatch is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hatch is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Veri couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Veri tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Norris swivels and escapes.

Norris blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Norris tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Veri smiles and moves away.
Norris shoots in for a takedown but Veri shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pol Veri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Norris.
Norris is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
