1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Max Alekseev! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Alekseev with that takedown attempt. Valdez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Alekseev to the mat! Alekseev manages to get full guard. Valdez is looking to work some ground and pound but Alekseev has wrist control. Valdez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Valdez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alekseev works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Valdez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Alekseev wants to stand and escape but Valdez is having none of it. Valdez throws and elbow that misses. Alekseev uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Valdez's guard. Nice move by Alekseev! Valdez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Alekseev passes into side control.

Alekseev jumps back into Valdez's guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Valdez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Alekseev defends well. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alekseev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Valdez keeping moving, preventing Alekseev from controlling successfully. Alekseev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Alekseev is posturing up here but Valdez has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Alekseev tries to roll out but it's too tight and Alekseev has to tap! Slick submission there by Valdez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McBuck misses with a looping right. A slow jab from McBuck misses its intended target. Mitchell wants to clinch. Mitchell is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Mitchell keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McBuck. Mitchell moves out of range as McBuck strikes. McBuck drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. McBuck is looking to take a break and control but Mitchell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mitchell struggling a bit here. McBuck trying to control the position but Mitchell is working away.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Mitchell tries to clinch up but McBuck circles away and keeps his distance. Mitchell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's six minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. McBuck misses with a hook. Mitchell ducked under it nicely. Mitchell fails with the takedown and McBuck counters with a nice double leg into guard. McBuck stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mitchell swivels though and keeps the full guard. McBuck prevents Mitchell from getting back to his feet. McBuck is looking to work some ground and pound but Mitchell has wrist control. McBuck is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. McBuck postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mitchell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McBuck, into his guard.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. McBuck is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mitchell looking to pass the guard. Mitchell wants to control from the top but McBuck keeps moving. McBuck is pulling down on Mitchell's head. It's preventing any offense from Mitchell, at least for the moment. McBuck is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. McBuck is really struggling to control Mitchell but he's trying to hold on to the position. Mitchell stands up from guard. Let's bang! McBuck keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mitchell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McBuck circles away quickly and effectively. Mitchell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Dave Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McBuck throws a looping overhand right but Mitchell ducks down to avoid it. Mitchell blocks a jab. That's eight minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mitchell trying desperately to get to his feet.

Mitchell blocking the ground and pound. McBuck controlling his opponent. Mitchell tries to hold on but McBuck pushes him away.

Kaenorsing is rocked! Kaenorsing takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Kaenorsing is still on wobbly legs! Can Gushiken finish him? We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gushiken throws a pinpoint strike between Kaenorsing's hands that connects right on the jaw and sends Kaenorsing crashing to the floor! He's out before he even hits the mat and Gushiken scores a great knockout victory!

Takasu fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Quinton Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryuuji Takasu. and Takasu counters with a nice uppercut. Jackson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Takasu is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Jackson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Takasu fails with the takedown and Jackson counters with a series of strikes. Takasu will be more careful next time no doubt. Takasu is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.

and Takasu counters with a one-two to the body.

Takasu throws a combination that misses and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Takasu backing up. Takasu nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes. Takasu swinging wildly here.
Takasu tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Takasu wants to clinch up but Jackson keeps it at a distance. Takasu paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Jackson on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jackson circles away from the clinch attempt and Jackson counters with a left and a right that stings Takasu.
That's five minutes gone in the round. No joy there for Takasu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
