Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jackson Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Lesnar! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lesnar dives in and grabs Martinez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Martinez pushes down on Lesnar's head and hops out. Lesnar tries to clinch up but Martinez circles away and keeps his distance. Horrible takedown by Lesnar or perhaps it was just good defense by Martinez which made him look bad. Martinez wants to clinch and Lesnar counters with a shoot takedown. Martinez fights it but they end up in guard. Lesnar showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Martinez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Lesnar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Martinez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lesnar on the ground. I looks like Lesnar might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Martinez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesnar slips nicely into half guard. Lesnar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lesnar perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Lesnar trying to pass the guard but Martinez defending well. Lesnar works his way into side control. Lesnar scoring with punches from side control. Lesnar is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lesnar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Martinez, who protects the arm well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lesnar.
Martinez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Martinez tries to get out of the position. Lesnar happy to just control the position for now. Lesnar throws an elbow but Martinez slips to the side and avoids it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez trying to remain calm as Lesnar controls from the top position. Let's hope that Lesnar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sergio Lesnar. Martinez darts in and clinches Lesnar up against the cage. Lesnar tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Martinez avoids it. Lesnar goes for a takedown attempt but Martinez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Lesnar circles away from the clinch attempt and Lesnar counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Martinez is breathing heavily. Lesnar is pushing down on Martinez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Martinez is fighting to maintain full guard but Lesnar has managed to sneak the leg through. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Obrien to score an easy takedown into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Obrien passes Silva's left leg - he's now in half guard. Obrien works his way into full mount! Obrien controlling from mount. Obrien seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Silva for as long as he can get away with. Veloso gets slowly back to his feet. McCousin tries to clinch up. McCousin swings for the body but Veloso moves out of range.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nazario shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Silva as he avoids it easily. Nazario looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well. Silva misses with a takedown attempt and Nazario counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that. Nazario stands up from Silva's guard - Nazario perhaps looking for a knockout. Good standup being displayed there by Silva as he connects with a hook. Nazario scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Silva gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Nazario looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva manages to escape and get back to his feet! Nazario tries for a takedown but Silva circles away easily and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronaldo Nazario. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Nazario changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Silva fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Nazario is trying to stick to Silva's back but Silva is turning into Nazario. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nazario's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Silva. Nazario could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Silva throws a big right hand that misses. Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nazario. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nazario escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Silva trying to control but Nazario is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nazario is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Nazario keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass. Silva would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Silva stopping the sweep attempt from Nazario. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nazario is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ed Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nazario misses with a takedown attempt enabling Silva to counter with a crisp jab.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bebeto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Bebeto tries to control but Silva wriggling away. Silva is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Bebeto wants to control the pace but Silva is squirming around nicely. Silva tries to hold on but Bebeto pushes him away. Bebeto swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Silva is now in Bebeto's guard. A big mistake from Bebeto there, giving up the dominant position! After initially coming in at 156.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds.
