Staton rushes Carter and presses him up against the cage. Staton lands with a short head shot on the inside. Staton lands a body shot. Staton lands with a right to the head. Staton lands a body shot in the clinch.
Carter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Staton pulls him back up using the underhooks. Jeremy Staton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Staton is figuring out what he wants to do next. Staton is just content to waste time from the top position. Carter takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Staton works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Staton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Staton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carter for as long as he can get away with. Staton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Staton is looking to take a break and control but Carter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Carter has hold of Staton's hands but Staton slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
