The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howard jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Howard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Seeper shoots for a takedown but Howard saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. The fight moves into the clinch position. Seeper pulls Howard into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Howard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Howard trying to control the position from guard on top but Seeper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Howard tries to free his leg and advance position but Seeper is retaining full guard. Seeper keeping moving, preventing Howard from controlling successfully. Howard forces his way into half guard. Seeper gets full guard. Howard trying to control the position from guard on top but Seeper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Seeper tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Seeper stands and throws Howard's legs to the side, diving into side control. Howard is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Seeper's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Seeper is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Howard trying to control but Seeper postures up.

Howard is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Seeper is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Howard pushes Seeper off looking to stand but Seeper dives back in and keeps control.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Seeper shoots for a double leg takedown but Howard sprawls well. He's pushed Seeper's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Howard scoring well with a low kick there.
Howard throws a head kick that misses. Howard gets caught flat footed, as Seeper shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Howard trying to keep a closed guard but Seeper is proving a slippery customer.

Seeper postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Seeper passes into half guard. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns shoots in but no luck this time. Burns scores a takedown into full mount! Burns swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Fitzgerald is now in Burns's guard. A big mistake from Burns there, giving up the dominant position! Burns looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Burns has a closed guard, preventing Fitzgerald from standing up. Burns working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fitzgerald doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Burns is tightening it up a little... Fitzgerald has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Fitzgerald reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Fitzgerald taps out! nice BJJ there by Burns!

Pele seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Donnelly wants to hit a switch here but Pele passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Donnelly there! Donnelly can't escape the position.

Perry is trying to stand up here but Griffith is controlling him well. Perry is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Griffith scores with a couple of nice shots. Griffith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Perry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Griffith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Perry looks gassed! Griffith lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Griffith tries to control but Perry wriggling away. Perry in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Perry is squirming around, avoiding Griffith's attempts to control the action. Griffith scoring with strikes but Perry is staying in there.
