Hughes shoots in looking for a takedown. Virta tries to sprawl out of it but Hughes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Virta manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hughes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Virta sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hughes somewhat.

Hughes is trying desperately to land a takedown but Virta is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Hughes.
A nice left hand lands by Virta.
Virta's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Virta fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hughes.
Virta lands a left and a right that send Hughes crashing to the mat, dazed. Virta thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Virta feints a jab and as Hughes dips his head, Virta unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Hughes right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Hughes falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Virta smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ara Virta!
