The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Simmons. Simmons closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Simmons lands in his opponent's guard. Fletcher is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Simmons stops Fletcher from standing up. Fletcher is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Fletcher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Simmons shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fletcher sprawls well. Fletcher wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Simmons gets slowly back to his feet. Simmons shoots in for a takedown! The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chase Fletcher wasn't active enough on the ground. Simmons looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Fletcher gets caught flat footed, as Simmons shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fletcher is on top in guard.
