1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeremy Woodie! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Woodie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ross's guard. Ross wants to sweep here but Woodie controlling him for the moment. Woodie wants to control from the top but Ross keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ross has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Woodie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Woodie drops back looking for a leg! Ross is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ross manages to kick Woodie off! Woodie jumps back into Ross's guard. Woodie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ross is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ross has escaped and now he's on top! Ross postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Woodie is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ross, into his guard. Woodie passes Ross's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ross trying to hold on to Woodie's head to control him but Woodie postures up.
Ground and pound from Woodie. Woodie looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Ross tries to get to full guard but Woodie has control of the leg. Woodie has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ross stops Woodie from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Woodie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ross is looking to escape. Woodie looking for a guillotine from mount but Ross is having none of it. Woodie looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Woodie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ross has worked his arm free - good work by Ross!
Woodie tries to advance to mount but can't. Ross is not content to let Woodie control the position. Woodie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Ross regains half guard. Woodie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Woodie wants to take a breather but Ross is having none of it. Woodie has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ross keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ross tries to hold on but Woodie postures up. Woodie looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Ross is rocked! Woodie is landing with some decent strikes but Ross is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Oh Ross is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Woodie throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Woodie trying to control but Ross is having none of it. Woodie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Woodie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ross kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ross manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Woodie throws a jab but it's blocked by Ross. Woodie pushes Ross against the cage but Ross circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Woodie swings for the body but Ross moves out of range.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Overeme shoots in and bounces Ward off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Overeme trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Overeme loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Ward throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Overemeis looking to pass into half guard but Ward pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ward is in guard. Overeme manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ward is looking to regain half guard here but Overeme keeps moving and retains side control. Ward takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Overeme working the head and body with strikes. Overeme lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ward down.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ward takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Overeme crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ward - the referee stops the clock and Overeme gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ward. Overeme manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. A nice combination there by Ward.

That's going to take a lot out of Alistar Overeme. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Overeme wants to control the position but Ward says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Ward wants to stand but Overeme has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Michaels wants to clinch and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Michaels backing up. Michaels nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes. Michaels explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Smith throws a right and a left that Michaels avoids nicely. Smith throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Molina tries to avoid it but Luther manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Molina to the ground. Molina escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Molina closes the distance and clinches. Luther fails to pull guard.

Luther has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Molina down to the mat. Molina avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Luther throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Molina holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Luther tries to score a body lock takedown but Molina shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dag Luther. That's going to take a lot out of him. Luther pulls guard successfully.

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jin Sen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sen comes to the cage accompanied by Let It Rock. Rick Shields told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sen misses with a wild combination.

and Shields takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Shields walks straight into a right hand from Sen - that's dropped him! Sen jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Shields from any more punishment! Shields complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
