The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendoza shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Manford is trying to defend but Mendoza finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mendoza prevents Manford from standing back up.

Mendoza is working for a submission of some sort.
Mendoza throwing shots but Manford is blocking nicely.
Still in half guard, Mendoza seems content to control.
Mendoza is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Manford!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendoza is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Manford to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Manford shrugs it off.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mendoza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mendoza looking to sit in guard and control but Manford gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendoza can do anything to dispel that myth.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mendoza holds on and takes a little breather.
Mendoza manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Manford is trying desperately to improve position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mendoza working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Manford turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mendoza off and cradles Manford's limp body as Mendoza celebrates with his corner.

Barreda swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Jesus Barreda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fernando Sofistieras.

Sofistieras shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barreda's guard.

Barreda throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sofistieras.

Oooooh!!! Barreda has knocked Sofistieras down with a huge combo! Barreda steps away and waves a wobbly Sofistieras back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Barreda closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Sofistieras! Barreda dives in looking to finish! Sofistieras is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
