Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Mcgiven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maynard is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Roy Jones - Can't Be Stopped. Roger Mcgiven looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcgiven feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mcgiven won't allow Maynard to sweep him here.
Mcgiven passes Maynard's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mcgiven wants to pass the guard but Maynard is defending well.

Mcgiven is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Maynard doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mcgiven.

Maynard can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mcgiven is looking to escape.

Maynard is working for a guillotine from mount but Mcgiven frees his head quite easily.
Maynard manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mcgiven to take his back!

Maynard looking to break Mcgiven's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mcgiven remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Maynard will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Mcgiven bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Maynard is trying desperately to improve position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
I really don't envy Maynard right now.
Maynard is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mcgiven is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Mcgiven will probably get the nod.

Maynard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Maynard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Roger Mcgiven overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Maynard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mcgiven is just riding it out for now. Maynard eventually gives up the hold.

Mcgiven has his foot on Maynard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maynard works his way back into a safe position though.
Maynard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Maynard has an Americana. Mcgiven didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Maynard is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Maynard hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
