Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Chimpo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Howard! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chimpo shoots in but Howard avoids the takedown attempt easily. Chimpo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. A bit of a lull in the action here. Chimpo throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Howard controls the position for a moment. Howard is looking to regain half guard here but Chimpo keeps moving and retains side control. An elbow from Chimpo crashes against the mat.
Chimpo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Chimpo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howard wants to control but Chimpo postures up. Howard is trying to improve his position. Chimpo throws an elbow but Howard slips to the side and avoids it well. Howard is trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Howard can't do much from the bottom here. Howard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chimpo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Howard tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Howard doesn't manage to clinch there - Chimpo circles away.
Howard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Chimpo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bobby Howard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chimpo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chimpo lands in his opponent's guard. Howard trying to keep a closed guard but Chimpo is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Chimpo wants to pass the guard but Howard is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Howard wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Chimpo manages to pass to side control. Howard is holding on to half guard well. Chimpo seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Chimpo wants to pass the guard but Howard is defending well. Howard gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard looks gassed! Chimpo thows a big elbow that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Chimpo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howard swivels though and keeps the full guard. Howard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chimpo manages to get himself to full guard.
Howard won't allow Chimpo to sweep him here. Howard stays in close to Chimpo's body and controls the position. Chimpo throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Howard drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chimpo dives on top into guard. Howard is trying to control the position but Chimpo postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johnny Chimpo dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Chimpo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Howard is trying to get back to full guard. Chimpo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Howard keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Chimpo is working for a submission of some sort.
Chimpo works his foot free and advances to mount. Chimpo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Howard because Chimpo loaded up on that one. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Howard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Howard landing some decent shots from guard. Howard decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chimpo, up you get! Howard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Howard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Howard controlling from the full mount. Howard is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Chimpo has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Chimpo! Chimpo throwing strikes from guard but Howard blocks nicely. Howard is controlling Chimpo's posture. Chimpo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chimpo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Howard manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chimpo has Howard in his guard. Howard wants to control from the top but Chimpo keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Howard tries to free his leg and advance position but Chimpo is retaining full guard. Chimpo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Howard controls the pace. Chimpo wants to sweep but no luck. Howard looking to pass the guard. Chimpo has momentary wrist control but Howard slips an elbow through the middle. Chimpo wants to sweep but no luck. Howard controls the pace of the fight for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bobby Howard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Howard tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Howard jumps into side control! Chimpo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Chimpo wants to get back to full guard. Howard is looking for a kimura here.

Howard clinches up with Chimpo and pushes him back against the cage. Chimpo is looking to break free of the clinch but Howard has double underhooks. Howard stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Howard gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Chimpo regains guard.
Howard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Howard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Howard stands up over Chimpo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Howard gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Howard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Howard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Howard landing strikes from the mount. BOOM! Howard connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Chimpo is trying desperately to improve position. Howard breaks from Chimpo's wrist control and lands an elbow. Chimpo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Chimpo is looking to get to half guard. Chimpo manages to regain half guard. Good work. Chimpo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Chimpo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Howard's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Howard's back! Chimpo working for the choke. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Howard preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Chimpo.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Bobby Howard. Well Howard has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Tapia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Tapia breaks from the clinch.

Tapia throws a series of punches but Jackson moves out of range. Tapia listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Tapia throws a combination that misses and Jackson counters with a shoot takedown. Tapia fights it but they end up in guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tapia wants to stand but Jackson is controlling the position. Jackson is pushing down on Tapia's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tapia is fighting to maintain full guard but Jackson has managed to sneak the leg through.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barbosa tries to clinch up but Yamamoto circles away and keeps his distance. Barbosa tries to close the distance and clinch but Yamamoto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Barbosa looks for a takedown but Yamamoto sprawls well. Barbosa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Barbosa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tang misses with a takedown attempt - Henderson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Henderson fails with the takedown and Tang counters with a shoot takedown. Henderson fights it but they end up in guard. Henderson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Henderson lands an upkick as Tang stands over him. Henderson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Tang working some strikes from top position. Tang forces his way into half guard. Tang is pressing down on Henderson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Henderson is holding on for now. Tang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Henderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Henderson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tang swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tang bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Henderson's guard.

Henderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tang is looking for a kimura but Henderson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tang to get the leverage. Tang scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Henderson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Tang counters with a lovely straight right hand! Tang throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Horrible takedown by Tang or perhaps it was just good defense by Henderson which made him look bad. Henderson has his takedown stuffed and Tang counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wu Tang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Henderson.

He's being very persistent here but Woods manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Ubamoneda has a loose triangle. Woods misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
