Kai is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pepper gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Pepper gets a trip takedown into half guard. Pepper wants to work for an arm triangle but Kai is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pepper works his way into side control. Kai is looking to regain half guard here but Pepper keeps moving and retains side control. Pepper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Kai is trying to get back to half guard. Kai throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Pepper working for a submission but Kai is keeping him at bay. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kai tries to reverse the position but Pepper maintains control. Pepper with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pepper is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kai can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pepper has control of Kai's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kai regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Glover. No joy for Hempsey on that attempt. Glover misses with a two punch combination.

Hempsey shoots in but Glover avoids the takedown attempt easily. Hempsey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Glover's guard. Glover wants to sweep but no luck. Hempsey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hempsey is looking to work some ground and pound but Glover has wrist control. Hempsey looks gassed! Glover fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hempsey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Hempsey takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Hempsey seems to have recovered his senses. Glover looks to land a combination. Hempsey sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Glover throws a shot from downtown. Hempsey moves away and avoids it. Hempsey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Glover's guard. Hempsey is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Glover scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Glover displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Glover scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Hempsey punching to the body, from the bottom. Hempsey trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Hempsey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Glover's guard. Hempsey is looking to advance position but Glover has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Hempsey is wriggling around trying to escape.
