The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagat tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sagat rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mason moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sagat scores with a sloppy right hand. Mason should have avoided that one.
It looks like Mo Mason has been cut.
Sergei Sagat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mason misses with a combination
and Sagat counters with a beautiful punch that sends Mason to the canvas!
Mason is rocked!
Mason had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sagat is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mason Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sagat's back instead.
Mason is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Mason is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sagat is defending well though. Mason let's go of the attempt for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mason drops back looking for a leg! Sagat is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sagat manages to kick Mason off! Mason jumps back into Sagat's guard.
Sagat has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mason can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mason sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sagat's guard.
Mason is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sagat is just riding it out for now. Mason eventually gives up the hold.
Mason is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sagat!
Sagat wants to hold on but Mason pushes him away.
Sagat is trying to stand up.
Mason has hold of Sagat's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sagat manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason tries to control but Sagat wriggling away.

Mason is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sagat is surviving well by controlling Mason's body position as best he can.

Mason stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

That's time! Sagat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Mason throws an overhand right that lands on Sagat's shoulder, as Sagat tries to avoid the shot.
Sagat lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mason backs up against the cage.
Mason throws an overhand right that drops Sagat like a sack of potatoes! Mason dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
