And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aleksandr Chernekov!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chernekov scores with a one two! Alves had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Chernekov drives through and clinches with Alves against the ropes.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Chernekov wants to get up but he can't break Alves's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Alves trying to stand up but can't free himself from Chernekov's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alves has a takedown stuffed.
No luck for Alves with that takedown attempt.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chernekov as he jumps to the side.

and Chernekov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Alves's guard now.

Chernekov is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Chernekov wants to pass the guard but Alves is keeping the position.
Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chernekov tries to close the distance and clinch but Alves swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Alves throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chernekov sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Chernekov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alves, pushing him back against the ropes.

Chernekov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Chernekov manages to end up in side control.
Alves manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Chernekov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Chernekov tries to buck Alves off but Alves is having none of it.
Chernekov tries to escape but Alves is in control.

Chernekov is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Chernekov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Chernekov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Alves is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Chernekov is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Alves is pressing down on Chernekov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chernekov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chernekov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Alves pushes a forearm under Chernekov's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Chernekov is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Misawa is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Smith is forced to tap! Great finish!

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Satomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slaven Zlatko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonny Satomi had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 147.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Satomi. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Well Zlatko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
