0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott McDanial! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Swagger or perhaps it was just good defense by McDanial which made him look bad. Swagger misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Swagger shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Swagger showed some decent athleticism there. Swagger throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Swagger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Swagger lands a nice short elbow. McDanial is doing well to control the position and prevent Swagger from advancing to side control. McDanial is looking for a sweep. Swagger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Swagger looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Swagger is working for a kimura but McDanial is defending it quite comfortably.

Swagger is looking to take a break and control but McDanial is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. McDanial lands a head shot. Swagger closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Swagger wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDanial keeps working. McDanial wants to get back to his feet.
Swagger seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McDanial does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Swagger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McDanial with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Swagger is looking to take a break and control but McDanial is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Swagger wants to advance to full mount but McDanial doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Swagger postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McDanial is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Swagger, into his guard. Swagger will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

McDanial manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Swagger looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! McDanial has picked Swagger up and slammed him! Swagger can't keep hold of the triangle and McDanial manages to pass to side control! Swagger is breathing heavily.

Swagger could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. McDanial prevents Swagger from improving his position. McDanial lands with a punch from half guard. McDanial controlling the action here. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Swagger on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. It looks like McDanial is going to stand back up.

smith has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from smith there as he acknowledges the shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Demidov throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! smith crumples to the floor and the fight is over!

Stahl misses with a looping left. Stahl throws a right hand that Christiansen ducks under and follows up with a left that Christiansen also avoids with ease. Nice takedown defense from Stahl. No joy for Christiansen on that attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Christiansen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Christiansen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stahl to the mat! Stahl manages to get full guard. Christiansen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Stahl keeping busy on the bottom but Christiansen has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Stahl is pulling down on Christiansen's head. It's preventing any offense from Christiansen, at least for the moment. Christiansen stopping the sweep attempt from Stahl. Christiansen is looking to stand up but Stahl won't let him.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Christiansen misses with a takedown attempt - Stahl sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Stahl keeps the fight on the outside. Christiansen misses with a body shot.
Stahl keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Christiansen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stahl circles away. Christiansen is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stahl gets in close and instigates a clinch. Christiansen tries to pull guard but Stahl holds him up against the ropes and eventually Christiansen drops back down to his feet.

Christiansen takes a body punch but keeps moving. Stahl looks to score with a jab to the body but Christiansen is just out of range. Christiansen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Christiansen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Stahl escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Christiansen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Christiansen trying to control the position from guard on top but Stahl is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Christiansen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stahl is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Christiansen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stahl swivels though and keeps the full guard. Stahl is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Christiansen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stahl's guard. Stahl is trying to keep Christiansen in close.
Stahl wants to sweep here but Christiansen controlling him for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Matthew Christiansen will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Stahl avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Christiansen tries to stand but Stahl is controlling from the bottom. Stahl is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Stahl escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Christiansen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Stahl has control of Christiansen's left arm, preventing Christiansen from doing any damage. Christiansen gets to his feet - Stahl follows without any prompting. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Christiansen.
Stahl stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Christiansen. Stahl moves out of range as Christiansen throws a body kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A head kick misses from Christiansen. Christiansen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Stahl misses with a wild combination.
Christiansen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stahl tries to avoid it but Christiansen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stahl to the ground. Stahl escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Stahl lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Christiansen is rocked! Matthew Christiansen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Stahl lands a brutal uppercut that launches Christiansen off his feet! Christiansen tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bakunin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Johnstone swivels and escapes. Johnstone takes a swing at Bakunin's ribcage but misses. Nice jab there from Johnstone. Nice combo by Johnstone! Oh, that's hurt him - Bakunin falls to the canvas and Johnstone follows him into side control.

It looks like Igor Bakunin has been cut. Bakunin looks gassed! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
