Balducci shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rio's guard.
Rio working for a triangle but Balducci defends it easily.
Rio escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Balducci gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rio is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Balducci is trying to get back to full guard. Balducci is trying to control but can't.
Balducci moves into full guard.
Rio has gone for a leg lock! Balducci slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rio's guard. Balducci trying to control the position from guard on top but Rio is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Balducci decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Rio shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Balducci counters with a one-two to the body. Rio slips a jab and a cross from Balducci.
Rio avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rio has his takedown stuffed
and Balducci counters with a big slam. Rio looks out but Balducci is landing strikes to his unconscious opponent! Eventually the ref steps in to save Rio from any more punishment. A brutal conclusion to the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Nino Balducci!

Clayton throws a jab but it's blocked by Compton. Clayton moves away from the strike by Compton. Clayton rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Compton moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Compton moves out of range as Clayton strikes. Clayton tries a head kick but it misses.
Compton slips a jab and a cross from Clayton.
Compton lunges at Clayton with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Clayton's hand. Compton moves out of range as Clayton throws a body kick.
A combination from Clayton does no damage. Compton scores with a sloppy right hand. Clayton should have avoided that one. Clayton misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Clayton throws a shot from downtown. Compton moves away and avoids it. Compton cracks Clayton with an uppercut from hell and Clayton crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Compton's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Simmons looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Simmons is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mendez off and has taken his back! Simmons is trying to stick to Mendez's back but Mendez is turning into Simmons. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Simmons's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Mendez.
