0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Shapiro! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! jack closes the distance and clinches up with Shapiro, looking for a takedown. jack pushes Shapiro against the cage but Shapiro circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Shapiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Shapiro avoids the head kick by jack.
jack misses with a hook. Shapiro ducked under it nicely. A combination from Shapiro does no damage. Shapiro with a body punch. A glancing blow. jack ducks right into an uppercut from Shapiro. Shapiro avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
black jack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. jack moves in looking to clinch but Shapiro pushes him off. jack throws a left and a right that both miss
and Shapiro cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Shapiro cracks jack with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. jack throws a head kick that misses and Shapiro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Shapiro connects with a body shot. Shapiro closes the distance and lands a one-two. Shapiro uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before jack has time to react. Shapiro misses with a takedown and jack makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Shapiro really felt that one! Shapiro connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. jack throws a head kick that misses and jack takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Shapiro bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of jack's head. Shapiro scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. jack doesn't seem bothered though.
 That's one minute gone in the round. jack tries to close the distance and clinch but Shapiro swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. jack shoots in but Shapiro avoids the takedown attempt easily. jack is breathing heavily. Shapiro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. black jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Shapiro. Shapiro fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Shapiro is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round!jack had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into p�t�. jack shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shapiro's guard. jack tries to stand but Shapiro is controlling from the bottom.

enabling Shapiro to counter with a crisp jab. Shapiro scores with a nice head shot. jack on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. jack throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Shapiro counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Shapiro stalks jack and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into jack's face. jack staggers backwards, shaken. Shapiro moves into range and connects with a jab. Shapiro dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Shapiro scores to the head and body with a nice combination! jack throws a sloppy head kick and Shapiro moves out of range easily. jack looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Shapiro closes the distance and clinches. And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
Luke Shapiro dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
jack has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. black jack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. jack stuffs the takedown attempt from Shapiro. Shapiro gets slowly back to his feet. jack takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Shapiro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. jack throws a left and a right that both miss

Shapiro throws out a powerful jab. jack will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. jack wants to clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shapiro blocks a head kick by jack.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. jack keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. black jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Shapiro. Shapiro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. jack seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Shapiro avoiding damage under a succession of punches from jack. Shapiro wants to sweep but jack has passed to side control! Shapiro can't do much from the bottom here.
jack is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shapiro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Shapiro connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Shapiro doesn't manage to clinch there - jack circles away.
jack shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shapiro as he avoids it easily. The fighters circle momentarily. Shapiro darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Shapiro tries to clinch there but jack circles away.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Shapiro tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. jack smiles and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shapiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Horrible takedown by Shapiro or perhaps it was just good defense by jack which made him look bad. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Shapiro checks a leg kick. jack misses with a looping right. Shapiro lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Shapiro had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. jack is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shapiro Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take jack's back instead. Shapiro tries to get the hooks in deep but jack pushed the leg off. Shapiro doesn't have the hooks in and jack manages to turn into his guard.

jack stands up and waves to Shapiro to follow him. jack tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shapiro swats him away and circles back towards the center. Shapiro fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. jack walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. jack fails with an attempt to clinch.

Sam Samson had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Diesel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Samson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Samson trying to control but Diesel is working from the bottom.

Oh but Diesel is tightening it up a little... Samson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Samson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Samson taps out! nice BJJ there by Diesel!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carrey. Jimenez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jimenez trying his best to control but Carrey has mounted him. Jimenez swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Jimenez is trying to reverse the position but instead Carrey has taken his back - oops! Carrey doesn't have the hooks in and Jimenez manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carrey keeping moving, preventing Jimenez from controlling successfully. Jimenez tries to stand but Carrey is controlling from the bottom. Carrey should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Jimenez looking to pass the guard. Jimenez trying to control the position from guard on top but Carrey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jimenez sitting in guard, not really doing much. Jimenez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Carrey's guard.

Mihana closes the distance looking to clinch and Dempsey counters with a left to the body. Dempsey moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. No joy there for Dempsey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Dempsey counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mihana won't be happy with that. Mihana takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Dempsey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mihana is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dempsey asserts his dominance and retains side control. Dempsey controls the position from side control.

A jab from Dempsey finds it's way through Mihana's defenses. Dempsey shoots and misses and Mihana counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Dempsey shoots and misses
and Mihana holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

He's got his arms around Mihana's waist but Mihana gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dempsey off to one side. Matt Mihana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Dempsey. Mihana tries to clinch but Dempsey moves away and Dempsey counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Dempsey working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mihana's head. Mihana is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Dempsey showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Dempsey passes Mihana's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mihana is trying to get back to his feet but Dempsey has full control of the position and if anything, Mihana has just worked his way into a worse spot. Dempsey has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Mihana. Mihana looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Belfort shoots for a double leg takedown but Balboa II sprawls well. He's pushed Belfort's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Bain has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bain there as he acknowledges the shot. Umstedd closes the distance but Bain moves to the side
