The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Wakari lands a jab to the head.
Wakari fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Joe tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Wakari fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Joe, pushing him back against the cage.

Wakari is trying to trip Joe. He has hold of a leg but Joe is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wakari persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Joe has a closed guard, preventing Wakari from standing up.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wakari wants to stand and escape but instead Joe has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wakari is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Joe is controlling him.

Wakari pushes Joe off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Joe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wakari tries to avoid it but Joe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wakari to the ground. Wakari escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wakari closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
