The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mathis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Flett looking for a sweep. Not yet Flett, not yet.
Flett striking off his back, scoring a few points.
Mathis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mathis forces his way into half guard.
Flett tries to roll over but Mathis keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mathis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Mathis is looking to take a break and control but Flett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mathis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Flett knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Flett flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Mathis wanted to stand there but Flett had control of the position.

Mathis drops back looking for a leg! Flett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Flett manages to kick Mathis off! Mathis jumps back into Flett's guard.
Mathis pushing down on Flett's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Mathis is breathing heavily.

Flett is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mathis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mathis's back!
Mathis is really stuck here.
Mathis breaks Flett's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Flett pushes a forearm under Mathis's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Mathis is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
