The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balboa shoots in for a double leg but Roberts sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Roberts misses the shot to the body. Balboa ducks under a wild hook from Roberts. Roberts misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Balboa .
Balboa shoots for a takedown but Roberts saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Some bone on bone action there as Balboa checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Roberts gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Roberts wants to stand but Balboa is controlling the position. Roberts is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Balboa tries to free his leg and advance position but Roberts is retaining full guard. Balboa stands up and waves to Roberts to follow him. Balboa Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Roberts's back instead. Roberts is trying to get back to his feet but Balboa has full control of the position and if anything, Roberts has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gusa wants to control from the top but Scott keeps moving. A control attempt from Scott but he's now mounted!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scott throws up some feeble strikes from the bottom. Gusa smiles and locks on to an arm, pivoting beautifully as he drops to the side for an armbar. Scott tries momentarily to escape but he knows he's done and taps furiously to avoid injury. Confident submission skills displayed there by Gusa.

Sutton in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hayne tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Sutton!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Shevchenko as Dee Virus shoots in. Shevchenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Dee Virus counters with a lovely straight right hand! Dee Virus shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dee Virus was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shevchenko can do anything to dispel that myth. The referee warns Shevchenko that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Sanchez wants to get back to full guard but Hill has mounted him! Sanchez flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Steve Hill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Sanchez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Sanchez preventing the sweep. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sanchez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hill dives on top into guard. Sanchez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Willy Sanchez. Well Sanchez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
