1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Marquez! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marquez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Marquez wants to pass to mount but McEwan is defending the position. McEwan wants to get back to full guard. McEwan tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. McEwan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McEwan tries to get out of the position. Marquez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McEwan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. McEwan looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Marquez is looking to take a break and control but McEwan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marquez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Marquez is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marquez moves nicely into side control. McEwan is trying to get back to half guard. Marquez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McEwan will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. McEwan is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Marquez trying to control the action but McEwan is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marquez is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. McEwan looks calm but he's in trouble here. Marquez gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. McEwan is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Marquez lets go of the hold and McEwan can pop his arm back in it's socket.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No joy there for Khalid, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Khalid looks to land a combination but Calavar avoids it well. Khalid swats away the attempt to clinch by Calavar. Calavar shoots for a takedown but Khalid saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Khalid stuffs the takedown. Calavar misses with a low kick. Calavar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Khalid is fending him off so far but Calavar persists. Nope, Khalid circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Calavar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Khalid fails to land with a series of punches.

and Calavar connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Calavar tries to clinch up but Khalid circles away and keeps his distance. Khalid looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Khalid avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Calavar staying out of range there. Calavar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Khalid as he avoids it easily. Khalid drives through and clinches with Calavar against the cage.

Calavar wants to stand but Khalid has his arm trapped. Khalid is not content to let Calavar control the position. Khalid is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Calavar asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Khalid is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Calavar postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Khalid tries to close the distance and clinch up but Calavar swats him away and circles back towards the center. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Calavar will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Khalid tries to bum rush Calavar with a series of wild strikes but Calavar uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Khalid looks to throw the jab but Calavar is out of range. Calavar takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Calavar lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Calavar is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Khalid throws a left and a right that both miss
and Calavar counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Khalid throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Calavar counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Khalid misses with a double jab
and Calavar decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Khalid's guard. Calavar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Khalid controls Calavar momentarily but Calavar frees himself. Khalid is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Khalid throws a right hand that Calavar ducks under and follows up with a left that Calavar also avoids with ease. Khalid misses with a wild combination.

Calavar showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Khalid.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmy Calavar. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Calavar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Glenn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Glenn lands in his opponent's guard. Glenn wants to control from the top but Gru keeps moving. Gru really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Glenn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gru wants to get back to his feet but Glenn is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Gru wants to sweep but no luck. Glenn wants to control from the top but Gru keeps moving. Glenn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gru looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gru looks to have wriggled free... The referee asks Gru politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Gru prefers to stall for the moment though. Gru wants to stand but Glenn is controlling his arm. This one could be over very soon! Gru goes limp - he's gone! Glenn jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Douglas tries to reverse the position but Fuetes maintains control.

Prykti closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Prykti lands in his opponent's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Prykti tries to stand but Chops is controlling from the bottom. Prykti throwing strikes but missing. Prykti wanted to stand there but Chops had control of the position.

Ortiss tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiss can do anything to dispel that myth. Ortiss tries to get back to half guard but can't. A nice elbow there by Malone. Malone breaks from Ortiss's wrist control and lands an elbow. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Malone is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Ortiss has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Ortiss! Malone looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Malone Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ortiss's back instead. Ortiss avoids the strikes from Malone. Malone is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ortiss defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Malone controlling well, preventing Ortiss from escaping the position.

Tito Ortiss dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ortiss working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Ortiss won't allow Malone to sweep him here. Malone being controlled here, momentarily. Malone kicks Ortiss off and gets to his feet. Malone tries to clinch and Ortiss counters with a single leg into guard. Malone didn't expect that. This has been an exciting period of action! Ortiss is stalling in the full guard. Ortiss works over Malone with some ground and pound from guard. Ortiss distracts Malone with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Malone wants to get back to his feet but Ortiss is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Malone throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Malone is staying active underneath Ortiss, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Malone is trying to maintain the position but Ortiss is very close to passing his half guard. Ortiss is tying to control. Malone wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Ortiss throwing shots but Malone is blocking nicely. Malone avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ortiss. Ortiss stalling away here and it's allowed Malone to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Malone is on top in guard.
Ortiss will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Malone throws a right hand that Ortiss ducks under and follows up with a left that Ortiss also avoids with ease. Malone looks to clinch and Ortiss counters with a driving takedown into guard. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Malone. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clarence Malone. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ortiss drives through with a takedown into guard.
