The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ungar connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Pasanen takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Pasanen is breathing heavily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ungar misses with a hook. Pasanen ducked under it nicely. Ungar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pasanen as he avoids it easily. Pasanen tries to clinch up but Ungar circles away and keeps his distance. Ungar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pasanen circles away. Ungar throws a right and a left that both miss. Ungar cracks Pasanen with an uppercut from hell and Pasanen crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Ungar's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Ungar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pasanen swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pasanen wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pasanen working a defensive guard here.

Pasanen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ungar, who protects the arm well. Pasanen tries for a kimura but Ungar is defending well. Ungar wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

He's worked his way up against the cage but Pasanen has just dragged him back down to the mat. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ungar can't do much from the bottom here. Pasanen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Pasanen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pasanen misses with a takedown attempt - Ungar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ungar dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pasanen. That did some damage! Ungar ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pasanen moves away.

Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Pasanen trying to control but Ungar is working from the bottom. Ungar has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ungar tries to land a sweep but no joy. Spete Pasanen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Pasanen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Spete Pasanen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pasanen prevents Ungar from getting back to his feet. Stuey Ungar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ungar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Jones is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Makinen is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. McArthur is putting a hurting on Makinen here, landing some big shots from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McArthur tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. McArthur lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Makinen is trying to buck McArthur off. McArthur working the body and head with strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McArthur cracks Makinen with a big right hand but Makinen just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
McArthur cracks Makinen with an elbow. That is naaassty. Makinen is trying to escape and get back to his feet. McArthur landing a few strikes. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McArthur working the ground and pound from side control. McArthur lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Makinen down.
Makinen tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Makinen can do anything to dispel that myth. McArthur lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Todd McArthur dominated that round. The cut man is working on Todd McArthur's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
McArthur closes the distance but Makinen moves to the side and Makinen counters with a stiff right hand. Makinen slips under a jab. McArthur shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Makinen pinned against the cage. Makinen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McArthur moves out of range of the body kick from Makinen.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick by Makinen misses and McArthur counters with a lovely shot to the body. Left hook, right uppercut from McArthur. McArthur lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Makinen throws a head kick that misses and McArthur counters with a nice body shot. Makinen is breathing heavily. McArthur tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Makinen swivels and escapes. McArthur circles away from the clinch attempt and McArthur counters with a two punch combo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McArthur is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Makinen. McArthur moves into the clinch. McArthur is working for takedown but Makinen is calmly controlling the position for now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Todd McArthur. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McArthur goes for a takedown attempt but Makinen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. A head kick misses from McArthur.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Makinen on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by McArthur. McArthur obviously looking to wear him down.
A low kick from McArthur misses and Makinen counters with a head kick. Makinen tries to grapple but his opponent circles and McArthur counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Makinen!
That's four minutes gone in the round. McArthur takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. McArthur is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Makinen is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Makinen flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. McArthur anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Makinen and secures both hooks! This could be bad! McArthur slips an arm under Makinen chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. McArthur has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. McArthur is squeezing on Makinen like an anaconda would it's prey. Makinen fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
