Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, van chan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Forrest Griffin! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! chan scores a takedown into full mount! Griffin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. chan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Griffin is looking to escape. Griffin taking shots to the head. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. chan lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. chan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Griffin looks gassed! Griffin is squirming around, avoiding chan's attempts to control the action. chan lands with some strikes. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. chan landing shots from mount. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. chan controlling the position easily from mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. chan scoring with strikes but Griffin is staying in there. chan controlling the pace for now. chan is landing with some decent strikes but Griffin is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. chan with shots to the head and body - Griffin looks very uncomfortable down there. chan wants to control the pace but Griffin is squirming around nicely. Griffin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. chan pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. chan in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
A nice elbow there by chan. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! chan wants to control the pace but Griffin is squirming around nicely. chan is really struggling to control Griffin but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The referee stands the fighters back up. van chan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. chan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffin is trying to maintain the position but chan is very close to passing his half guard. Griffin is refusing to be controlled, as chan sits in half guard. chan scores with a couple of good hammerfists. chan trying to control from half guard but Griffin is working away. Griffin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. chan is working away from the top position though. chan slips a nice elbow through Griffin's hands, connecting with Griffin's forehead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. chan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working. Still in half guard, chan seems content to control. chan passes to side control. Griffin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
chan wants to control but Griffin is keeping him busy. Griffin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but chan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. chan wants to control but Griffin is keeping him busy. chan landing a few strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
van chan dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
chan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Griffin goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Forrest Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. chan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but chan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. chan has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for van chan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Griffin fails with the takedown and chan counters with a takedown into side control. chan controls the position. Griffin struggling a bit here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. chan has knee on belly and moves into mount. chan lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. chan trying to control but Griffin is having none of it. chan has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Griffin's face.
Griffin tries to reverse the position but chan maintains control. chan lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Griffin hang on? chan trying to control but he's not successful this time. chan looking to control and managing it successfully.
The referee stands the fighters back up. van chan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Griffin with a poor takedown and chan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. van chan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. chan cracks Griffin with a solid left hand. chan trying to control the position from guard on top but Griffin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. chan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffin controls chan momentarily but chan frees himself. chan content to stall in guard here. Griffin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. chan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. chan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Griffin striking off his back but it's not causing chan any problems.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. chan distracts Griffin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. chan landing with the ground and pound. chan chips away with some ground and pound. chan wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving. chan advances to half guard. chan seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
chan is trying to control the action in half guard but Griffin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Griffin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Griffin is staying active underneath chan, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Griffin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but chan scores with a couple of nice shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Griffin clinches but chan breaks the clinch and chan counters with a takedown into side control. chan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Griffin down.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Griffin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and chan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. chan throws a big right hand that misses. Griffin keeping moving, preventing chan from controlling successfully. chan passes easily into side control. Nice work. chan cracks Griffin with a big right hand but Griffin just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
That's four minutes gone in the round. chan working away. Griffin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but chan has just dragged him back down to the mat. chan advances nicely into full mount. chan trying to control but he's not successful this time. chan is landing with some decent strikes but Griffin is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. chan tries to control but Griffin wriggling away. chan lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. chan dominating with strikes here. Forrest Griffin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! van chan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. chan tries to control but Griffin wriggling away.
And that's the end of the fight! van chan showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for chan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makunouchi misses with a hook. Diu ducked under it nicely. Diu fails with a takedown attempt. Makunouchi throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Diu on the side of the head. Makunouchi throws a jab but it's blocked by Diu. Diu pushes Makunouchi up against the ropes in a clinch. Diu tries to score a body lock takedown but Makunouchi shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Diu gets control of Makunouchi 's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diu will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Diu trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Makunouchi is sitting in close to Diu's body. Diu has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Makunouchi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Makunouchi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Diu.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gr misses with a takedown attempt - ZuZu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. ZuZu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Gr wants a takedown.

Sassou ZuZu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Forza Gr. Gr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. ZuZu just stands there and leans against the ropes. Gr manages to pull guard.

Gr is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. ZuZu is defending well though. Gr let's go of the attempt for now. Gr looks gassed! ZuZu is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gr gets his way!

ZuZu defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gr's arms. ZuZu wants to get back to his feet. ZuZu trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Gr has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. ZuZu controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. ZuZu grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. Gr working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. ZuZu has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. ZuZu knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gr on the ground. Gr looking for the choke from the back. Gr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. ZuZu is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Gr off. It looks like it's working - Gr slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! ZuZu displaying calm under pressure there. ZuZu closes the distance and pushes Gr back into the ropes.

ZuZu is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Gr thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gr scores with punches from side control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! ZuZu is trying to escape and get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Forza Gr dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Gr shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Gr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as ZuZu works some decent striking defense from the bottom. ZuZu kicks Gr off and gets to his feet. Gr shoots for a takedown but ZuZu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gr shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with ZuZu but ZuZu pushes him off and we're back to square one. ZuZu clinches up against the ropes. Gr is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though. Sassou ZuZu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Forza Gr. ZuZu landing knees to the head.

He's got his arms around ZuZu's waist but ZuZu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gr off to one side. ZuZu moves into the clinch successfully.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diias shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Miyazawa as he jumps to the side. Miyazawa has Diias up against the ropes in a clinch.
Miyazawa is pressed up against the ropes. Diias has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Miyazawa down to the mat. Miyazawa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Miyazawa is looking to clinch. Miyazawa wants to clinch up but Diias keeps it at a distance. Diias swinging wilding here.
Diias throws a right hand that Miyazawa ducks under and follows up with a left that Miyazawa also avoids with ease. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Barca is trying to control. Makoto wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Makoto is trying to stand back up but Barca is controlling him

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Makoto throws a good cross that connects.

If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Barca passes into half guard. Barca wants to take a breather but Makoto is having none of it. Barca tries to pass to full mount but Makoto defends it. Still in half guard, Barca seems content to control. Barca wants to pass to mount but Makoto is defending the position. Barca is trying to control the action in half guard but Makoto is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Barca prevents Makoto from improving his position. Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Barca shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Makoto as he avoids it easily. Barca tries to clinch up but Makoto circles away and keeps his distance. Makoto misses with a few strikes there.

Jiro Makoto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Barca's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Barca gets back to full guard.
