The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawana tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chan swivels and escapes.
Kawana throws a head kick that Chan semi-blocks.

It looks like Jakie Chan has been cut.
Chan scores with a shot to the body.
Kawana tries to clinch but Chan moves out of range.
Chan dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kawana. That did some damage!

Chan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chan lands in his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chan gets to his feet. Kawana looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chan decides to stand and escape the position.
Kawana clinches but Chan breaks the clinch

and Chan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chan.
Chan prevents the takedown attempt.
Chan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kawana avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Chan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kawana has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Chan has hold of Kawana's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kawana manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
